Bournemouth is located on the South Coast of the UK and is claimed to have the most beautiful climate in the country.

Train and bus access to Bournemouth is easy and The Bournemouth and Poole College, which was established in 1977 is one of the largest state colleges in Southern England.

20,000 students aged from 16 plus come to The College to study academic, vocational, English Language Programmes and higher education courses each year. About 200 of them are International students.

The facilities at The College include libraries, computer rooms, multi-media equipment, science laboratories, kitchens, restaurants, student lounges, hairdressing and beauty salons IT Learning Zones etc.

All students have the opportunity to take advice from staff  who track their progress and studies.  International students also become a member of the Students Union when they enrol and can participate in the activities organised by them.   The College Accommodation Officer helps students find homestay accommodation.

Since July 2011 International students (non-EU)  who are studying for 6 months or more at a publically funded institution are eligible to work part-time for 10 hours per week during term time, and full-time during official holidays.  Please refer to UKBA Tier 4 Rules andResponsibilities.

Courses:

English Language
The College offers General English courses, 15 hours per week of English, and Intensive English Language courses 21 hours per week to include IELTS preparation.  In addition there are English Plus programmes, 15 hours of General English plus 6 hours per week of vocational course.  The maximum number of students in the class is 16 and a wide range of levels are offered from Elementary to Advanced.

A Level Plus English
The College also offers A – Level Plus English programme which is available for students aged 16 and aims to prepare them for UK university.  The programme is also known as Sixth Form and is a two-year course.  Students need to achieve Grade C or above in 3-4 subjects to gain entry to a UK university. The English Language entry level for this course is IELTS 5.0 as there is 6 hours per week of English Language for the first 12 weeks in order to reach the correct level for A Level study.

International Access to University

Students who successfully complete the International Access to University programme and obtain the correct entry grades, can progress to first year undergraduate in a UK university.  The IELTS entry for this programme is 5.0  and students must be minimum 17 years of age at the start.  Entry is in September, and January providing there are sufficient numbers.
 

Health and Social Care
This course has been specifically designed for International students who wish to obtain a UK qualification in Health and Social Care.   The course is 16 hours per week of study and 8 hours per week work placement for 12 months.  Students can start this course on a regular basis and is suitable for students who have gained a nursing qualification from their own country and have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent UKBA recognised English test.  The course provides 8 hours per week work experience  for students on a Tier 4 General Student Visa, so together with the 10 hours part-time working, allows 18 hours per week of paid work experience and full-time working during The College holidays.  The College will assist students in finding a work placement.
